rodrigo/fabrizio/binki :: smidgin joylittle joy’s show at the lounge in deep ellum on wednesday night was a breezy, relaxed affair that only reinforced why we delight the group’s self-titled inauguration so much. backed because of much of the night by tourmates the dead trees, rodrigo, binki, and fabrizio played practically the entire album to an adoring, enthusiastic crowd of roughly 200. highlights included an wondrous cover of helen shapiro’s (not binki’s mom, by the way) “walking back to cheeriness,” and a excellent rendition of album standout “don’t tend me dancing.” the vibe core the teeny-weeny venue was akin to that of some cramped speakeasy, and the ribbon (especially fab) seemed genuinely appreciative and moved by the warm dallas welcome. come back straight away, guys. check the slap setlist and a video of the band performing “how to hang a warhol” here. here are some photos:

Anthony Brown Floated As Potential Secretary of Veterans Affairs

Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) this morning acknowledged speculation that Lt. Gov. Anthony G. Brown (D) is under consideration for a Cabinet post in the Obama administration, saying the former Prince George’s delegate has been “a tremendous partner to me in guiding our state forward.”

Brown’s name has surfaced in several news reports as a possible secretary of veterans affairs, including an account Friday in the Air Force Times. That publication said Brown’s name was “hotly circulating” among advisers to President-elect Barack Obama.

“Given his talents, his military service, and his abilities, it is natural that people would speculate about the possibility of the Lieutenant Governor being Secretary of Veterans Affairs in the Obama Administration,” O’Malley said in a statement issued yesterday morning.

Brown,47, is a colonel in the Army Reserves and an Iraq war veteran. He was a classmate of Barack Obama at Harvard Law School stromectol online but was an early supporter of the presidential bid of Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.).

There was just a little bit of astonishment on the Windham sideline Friday when Greg Merritt went 48 yards on the first play from scrimmage for the Whippets football team.That astonishment grew a little when Nate Fleming took the next hand-off and followed the same route behind the left side of the offensive line 30-plus yards for a touchdown.But any surprise with the ease in which Windham scored was quickly extinguished as the Whippets made it a commonplace occurrence in a 41-7 rout of Berlin.The muttering along the Windham sideline quickly grew into, “Why haven’t we done this all season?”“There’s a lot of ‘shoulda, coulda, wouldas’ this year,” Windham coach Brian Crudden said. “Hopefully, with a win on Thanksgiving, we go 7-4 with a very competitive schedule. Early on, I don’t think we played to our full potential.”The Whippets (6-4) amassed 450 yards on the ground, with 190 of those belonging to quarterback Spencer Beaudreault who carried the ball only six times. Nate Fleming finished with 78 yards on only four carries to average almost 20 yards a haul, and Zach Fleming added 98 yards at 14 yards per clip.
