Of Course, Nick & Starr Win ‘Amazing Race’
They’d already won first place six times on this 13th go-round of “The Amazing Race.”
So naturally, the good-looking brother and sister team of Nick and Starr Spangler (yeah, that’s their last name) also won the $1 million grand prize at the final pit stop in Portland, Ore. Sunday.
Looking pert in their matching camouflage, they were ahead when they left Russia and mostly stayed ahead once they got to Portland.
Close on their heels (or so the editing would make it seem), though, were Ken & Tina Greene, the ex-NFL player and his estranged wife, actually making it first to a couple of the many stops in Portland, thanks to taxis that took them directly where they needed to go without turning around.
Nick & Starr had to do at least one U-turn. And the frat boys Dan Honig & Andrew Lappitt, who had finished second in Russia despite having to an extra task because they were last on the previous non-elimination stop, never got started. They got a bad cabbie as soon as they got to the states and never thriller movies caught up.
In the end, it’s almost always the luck of the cab that gets you through.
For their part, the frat boys were happy to have just been able to finish the race. After all, Dan said, “we were beaten by two far superior teams.”
There wasn’t much of an emotional payoff as the siblings won. Everybody expected them to win, and they could only go so far in saying how close they were or how much they loved each other — they were brother and sister.
So Ken & Tina provided the emotion when they hit the final pit stop, with the former football player pulling out a ring and offering a terrible proposal right in front of the CBS audience and everybody: “Let’s start this thing over again and we’re going to do it right this time.”
He was talking about their marriage, not the race.
All the previously eliminated teams came out to cheer the final three on on their finishes on the show, which has averaged 10.8 million viewers this season. All the teams that is except for one. The mother-son combo of Toni and Dallas Imbimbo (these last names!) were notably download fantasy movies absent in Oregon.
Too bad, we could have seen the reunion of Dallas and Starr who had been flirting through the whole race (and whose names together approximates that of the Texas hockey team).
Were Toni and Dallas too humiliated for how they lost in Russia (losing money and passports in a cab?). Were there issues in traveling back to the states for the final leg without the passports? Were they just left behind? Nobody ever said.
